Using Un-Matted Photos in a Layout

I thought I'd write a little post since the blog is a bit behind.

I'm a multi-photo layout gal. I like to get as many pictures on a page/in a layout as possible. I figure since I took all those pictures, I may as well use as many as I can.

The easiest way to manage this is to not matte the pictures. I simply ink the edges to add a little definition and then arrange on the page.

Tips:
  • Be sure to leave room for journaling and/or titling. I tend to make my point with my titles as much as I can. But sometimes I do need to make space for some journaling - even if it's just a date.
  • Keep it balanced. I'll either focus on an imaginary circle or some other shape in the center of the page. When I first started I actually cut out some shapes (circle, square, triangle, oval, etc) and put it on the page so I can better visualize where my focal point would be.
  • I find it easiest to crop/resize the photos first - get rid of all the extra space, unwanted background, etc.
Have fun and enjoy!
