Using Un-Matted Photos in a Layout

I thought I'd write a little post since the blog is a bit behind.

I'm a multi-photo layout gal. I like to get as many pictures on a page/in a layout as possible. I figure since I took all those pictures, I may as well use as many as I can.

The easiest way to manage this is to not matte the pictures. I simply ink the edges to add a little definition and then arrange on the page.

Tips:

Be sure to leave room for journaling and/or titling. I tend to make my point with my titles as much as I can. But sometimes I do need to make space for some journaling - even if it's just a date.
Keep it balanced. I'll either focus on an imaginary circle or some other shape in the center of the page. When I first started I actually cut out some shapes (circle, square, triangle, oval, etc) and put it on the page so I can better visualize where my focal point would be.
I find it easiest to crop/resize the photos first - get rid of all the extra space, unwanted background, etc.

So, as some of you may know, i am seriously addicted to scrapbooking...actually, to be more accurate, not only am i addicted to scrapbooking but i am SUPER addicted to buying supplies...this is where EY comes in handy-LOL

Speaking of EY, have you been to the store lately? No matter how many projects i make i just can't seem to get enough of the Pink Paislee...the inspiration, especially from the Vintage Moon line, is absolutely endless!! AND...for someone who isn't much of a PINK person, the Pop Fashion line is gorgeous and perfect for scrapping my sassy teenage daughter Emily! Aside from these goodies, Amy has just gotten in some super holiday paper from Dream Street...SUPER excited to get crafty with that this week as i make a sample for my up and coming Cookie Sheet Advent Calender Class...this is one you don't want to miss, be it a gift to yourself or a handmade gift for a loved one, this class will be fun and i promise to go SLOW and not let any of you feel overwhelmed...anyone, be them new to scrapbooking or more seasoned to this craft, can do this class (see store website for details-class is scheduled for 12/2 at 6:30pm)

Lots going on this time of year...getting ready for 2 major holidays leaves me thinking of the many blessings in my life....being that friendship is one of them i am so happy to let you all know Amy is back working this week and hopefully on the mend...a few of us managed things at the store while she was recovering and all is going as well as can be expected for Amy and her family. Scrap Pink weekend is almost here!!! We are celebrating Scrap Pink Weekend September 26th through the 28th. Friday Night's Crop will be from 6-11pm. Saturday we will be cropping from 10am to 10pm. Sunday will be 10am to 5pm. It will be a fun and fabulous weekend full of goodies for everyone!
Scrap PInk weekend is a national event to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. Proceeds from the event will go to the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

We are MOVING!!!!!!!!!!!

We will be relocating the store to 36 Grassy Plain Street, Bethel at the end of this month. We will be re-opening our doors at our NEW location on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Our NEW location at 36 Grassy Plain Street is a larger location with off-street parking in the rear of the building. The Crop Room will be more spacious and features better lighting. There will be many nooks and crannies to explore for all of your scrapbooking needs!

Meet Josh! He is the voice on the other end of the phone at American Crafts for me. He and I had a great time with my friend, Christy, picking out some new yummies for the store.

The next set of pictures are from the My Little Shoebox booth. Helen Chu did an amazing job designing another gorgeous collection. I can not wait to play with these goodies at the store!!!
Her design team is headed up by Suzy West. Suzy and her crew had simply adorable, fresh, and vibrant ideas all throughout the booth.

Here are some pictures from the Summer CHA tradeshow that was held in Chicago this past weekend. I'm going to post my pictures in installments for everyone. It is also easier for me to upload them this way.

This is me and the infamous Ali Edwards. She was doing a couple demos at the Ranger booth using their alcohol inks. She likes dropping it on acrylic to see what happens. She was sweet enough to give me a sample artwork, signed of course!

This is Heidi Grace of Heidi Grace Designs. She was creating mini artworks for everyone. She made me a dragonfly...of course!

Jean Chatzky was the keynote speaker at CHA this Summer. She talked about budgetting and money pitfalls that just about everyone makes.

Kezia from Tinkering Ink and I chatted at great length about the EXCLUSIVE classes she will be teaching here at Express Yourself on October 2nd!!! She will be teaching a layouts class and a special Peek-a-boo album class! Stay tuned for MORE details!! You can always pre-register at any time to hold a spot in these classes.

Mark Montano from TLC's While You Were Out was at CHA and hosted a Craft Challenge. I was a lucky participant in the Challenge one of the days and won Second place! It was fun to paint under pressure, in ten minutes, and get messy in the middle of the tradeshow. I will post some more pictures of PRODUCTS on the blog in the next post! We had a blast at the Sue Gilman Tradeshow Weekend!!!

Jenn and I spent this past weekend at the Sue Gilman Tradeshow weekend having a blast learning so making new and different techniques to teach you all. We even spent Monday participating in the Ranger on the Road workshops. That was way too much fun!

While at the tradeshow we spent time getting to know some of the new products that will be coming into the store. Before I went to the tradeshow I was in a class with Jenni Bowlin and fell in love with her products. They are just so unique and cute!! Here I am with Jenni Bowlin after spending some time with her and her husband selecting some goodies for the store!

After spending time with Jenni I went to visit with Paul and Kezia at Tinkering Ink. I took a class with them a few days prior and was blown away by their products. Had to have them! Kezia, Jenn, and I selected a few gorgeous things for the store. Here's a sampling of goodies and a picture of Kezia and myself.

Of course a trip with Ranger on the Road would not be complete without a couple of pictures with some of Ranger's finest.....

We had a ton of fun, learned a lot and came home exhausted! It was a wonderful experience and hope to do it again next year!

Scrapbook Techniques I Class with Amy Birch!
~Tuesday, March 18th from 7pm to 9pm, $20

Amy Birch will teach beginning scrappers such techniques as:

Hello!

I promised you all some pictures from CHA. Here are a few of the highlights from the trip that I had.

Welcome to CHA at the Anaheim Convention Center! If you walked the entire show floor it was eight miles long!!! Over half of the show floor was Scrapbooking and Paper Crafts! WOW!

The picture was taken at dusk, so that is why it is a bit blue looking.

I was fortunate to meet a few Scrap-celebs during my travels about. It was an honor to meet them and talk to them about the industry. Everyone was so nice about talking to a mere stranger and having a picture taken.

Here I am with Tim Holtz after he made me an Art Trading Card. A picture and an ATC! What more could a girl want!!

I met Ali Edwards of "Life Artist" fame while we were in line for a coat check for a Suze Orman special function. I mentioned that Ali and I were headed to a Suze Orman special fuction. Here I am with Suze Orman after she signed one of my books of hers. She was a very powerful and inspirational speaker. Heidi Swapp was very sweet and we chatted about which products of hers would be best to bring into the store. She was focused on seeing a small retailer succeed with her products which was refreshing.

My last celeb picture for you all is of me and Carol Duvall. She and I are at California Disney after she was awarded a lifetime acheivement award. I grew up watching her shows and it was an honor to actually meet her in person.

So there you have it. My brushes with scrap fame and celebrities! It was an honor to meet and chat with each and every one of these inspiring people. I thank them for the time they took out of their busy lives for me.
